Learning To Walk with God

Isaiah 41:10

One of the great early milestones in life is that moment when a baby takes that first step and begins to walk.  What is a simple, mundane task for an adult is a major achievemnet for an inexperienced infant.  When a child takes that first step mom and dad are so proud and happy.  Someone has said that we want our children to walk and talk and then we want them to sit down and be quiet.  In the same manner when a person is born again he or she is thrust into a new world like a baby.  God takes us into his family and nurtures us and cares for us and makes sure that all are needs are met.  Like an earthly father God is pleased when his children mature and grow and eventually learn to walk.

I want to point out that God’s presence aids us in our learning to walk.  The moment a person is saved God fills that person with his Spirit.  The Spirit of God takes up residence in the body of every believer and He is not an inactive presence.  He is there to assist and help the believer function in the kingdom of God.  I have three children and with each of the three I played a role in their learning to walk.  I remember watching them crawl and pull up on furniture building strenth in their legs.  I would stand them up and hold their hands encouraging them to take tiny steps.  It is a great comfort to know that as we learn to walk in our Christian journey that we are not alone.  God is not a distant observer, but an active participant in our experience.  He is with us and He is for us as we struggle in our weakness and immaturity.  Isaiah 41:10 says “Fear thou not: for I am with thee:  be not dismayed; for I am thy God; I will strengthen thee; yea, I will help thee; yea I will uphold thee with the right hand of my righteousness.”  God is with us and God is holding our hand as we learn to walk with Him.
